Hurley In Hawaii, Day 3

Hurley in Hawaii, Day 3
Words by Aaron Astorga

Our third day on Oahu started out wet and rainy which was a bummer because we are supposed to do a demo. The rain let up for a bit so we quickly pulled the crew together and headed out to get something done before demo time. Unfortunately, right when we pulled away from the hotel the next wave of rain hit hard and we were shut down on any photo opportunities for the day so we decided to wait out the rain and eat lunch at the local diner.

Fortunately, the rain stopped and the demo would happen as planned. Alaa park is legendary and is the oldest skate park in the island chain. Over the past two decades Alaa has ripped by some of the best in the business; in the 80's Christian Hosoi floated big Backside Ollies out of the over vertical transitions, in the 90's when street skating became the main focus some new street obstacles were added, and now these days a fun combination of both transitions and street style makes Alaa a fun spot for just about everyone.

One of our fine retailers on Oahu, Blue Hawaii set up the demo and thanks to Chad and Rob across the street at APB Skateshop for helping sweep away the puddles of water the demo went off for a solid turnout of local skaters who flocked to the spot once school got out. Justin Strubing gapped into Frontside Tailslides while Robert Lopez-Mont opted for the Backside version into the tight transitions. Nick Yamasato threw out some clean Backside Crails and Nitlon Neves shut the demo down with an amazing Backside Smith on the over-vertical lip. The kids were stoked and our mission for the day was accomplished.

Tomorrow is our last day on Oahu and we plan on spending the day out on the north shore for a little surf and pool action. Check out tomorrow's update coverage from our last day on Oahu.
